As a church family, we are stepping into 14 days of intentional prayer and fasting—a focused season to seek God’s heart together and create space for Him to move in powerful and personal ways.

Throughout Scripture, we see men and women set aside time to fast and pray when they needed clarity, breakthrough, renewal, or direction. Jesus Himself fasted before stepping into His public ministry (Matthew 4). Fasting is not about striving—it’s about surrender. It’s about quieting the noise so we can hear the still, small voice of God more clearly.

This journey is not about perfection. It’s about positioning.

The "rotations" through our fast

Adding in More Prayer
Day 2, 6, and 10

On these days, we intentionally increase our time in prayer. Instead of fitting God into leftover moments, we build our day around seeking Him first. As we pray more, we quiet competing voices and invite God to renew our minds and align our hearts with His will. This is about deepening intimacy and choosing dependence over self-sufficiency.
Practically this may look like waking up a bit earlier to add in intentional time in the morning before your day begins or you may just set a timer on your phone to pray every hour or two so that the rush of your day doesn’t take over your prayer time with God.

Fasting Food
Day 3, 7, 11 and 14

On our fasting days, we fast from food as a physical reminder of our spiritual hunger. Each moment of hunger becomes a prompt to pray, meditate on scripture or refocus on God. We deny our bodies to strengthen our spirits, asking God to break patterns of conformity and grow discipline within us.
When it comes to fasting food, please be smart for what is best for your dietary needs - with all choices, please be sure to hydrate!
  • Compete fast (water only) - Abstain from all food and drink and drinking only water (or electrolytes without added sugars) for the day.
  • Partial fast - Fast for a part of the day. This may look like just skipping one meal or only fasting from sunrise to sunset for the day.
  • “Daniel Fast” - eating only simple foods - primarily fruits, veggies, whole grains and water. Avoiding meat, sweets and processed foods for the day.
  • Specific food fast - eliminate a specific food,  like added sugar, caffeine, carbohydrates or anything that has created a dependency or distraction.

Fasting Screens, TV and/or Social Media
Day 4, 8, and 12:

On these days, we step away from digital noise and constant input, so think about what device, streaming service or social media creates the most noise for you personally. By removing the steady stream of entertainment and comparison, we create space to hear God more clearly. On these days, we want to choose stillness over the chaos that screens can bring. In the quiet, we allow God to transform the way we think and what we desire.

Meditating on More Scripture
Day 5, 9, and 13

On these days,  we slow down and soak in God’s Word. Rather than rushing through verses, we reflect, repeat, and allow Scripture to shape our thoughts. As we meditate, our minds are renewed and our perspective shifts from worldly patterns to God’s truth. We ask the Holy Spirit to root His Word deeply in us so we live transformed, not conformed.
Practically, these days may look like audibly repeating scripture in order to memorize it. It may look like re-writing the verse over and over while asking the Holy Spirit to speak to you about it. You could also jot down verse(s) on post-it notes or note cards to place in prominent places for the day so that the words of God are surrounding you.
DAY 1 - SUNDAY FEBRUARY 22ND
Today we ask God to search our hearts as we prepare for these 14 days. Revival always starts with repentance, so surrender any hidden areas, and give up any guilt to God.
Take a few moments to pray for, journal through, and even talk with a friend or family member about how you hope to see God over these next few weeks.
  • Journal prompt: What are my expectations for this time of prayer and fasting? How do I want God to meet me? Are there any hidden areas that I need to FULLY surrender to Jesus?
  • Prayer: Pray for God to reveal himself to you - to meet you, to heal you, to show you, or to revive you. Pray for an open heart. Pray to know the things that God is asking you to "give up" or fast during this time. Pray for a deeper connection with Him.
DAY 2 - MONDAY FEBRUARY 23RD (adding more prayer)
How can I learn to not conform?
We live in a time that constantly tries to define us—what to value, how to think, and who to be. The current of culture is strong. It tells us to blend in, to chase approval, to measure ourselves by comparison. But Scripture calls us to something higher and more free: “Do not be conformed… but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
  • Scripture to meditate on: Romans 12:1-2
  • Journal prompt: What patterns do you see in your life that look like conforming to this world? How is God asking you to stand out to break those patterns? In what ways is this affecting your relationships with Him and with others?
  •  Prayer: Pray for ways to stand out and not conform to the patterns of this world - in your workplace, school, relationships and homes. Pray for a break in any patterns that you've seen. Lord, keep me from being conformed.
  • Worship song suggestion: Trust In God - Elevation Worship (click to listen)
DAY 3 - TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24TH (fasting food)
When and what do I keep silent?
Esther faced a defining choice: remain silent or step forward in courage. Confronted with fear and uncertainty, she chose to fast, seek God, and speak up for her people. As we fast today, we ask God to free us from fear, complacency, and hesitation. We pray for boldness to use our voices, wisdom to know when to speak, and faith to trust Him with the outcome. May this day strengthen us to stand in obedience and refuse to stay silent when God calls us to act.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Esther 4:12-16
  • Journal prompt: Is there anything that you are "keeping silent" about? In what ways do you feel God calling you to speak up? In what ways do you think that God wants you to "use your voice"?
  •  Prayer: Pray for the wisdom to know when to speak up. Pray for the courage to have the right words to say when that time comes. Maybe even pray for a specific situation with a specific person that you have on your mind.  Pray for a place to use your voice. Help me not to keep silent!
Worship song suggestion: Make a Joyful Noise/ I will Not Be Silent - David Crowder Band (click to listen)
DAY 4 - WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 25TH (fasting screens/social media/TV)
What in me, needs to die?

Hidden sin thrives in secrecy, but it loses power in the light of Christ. As we fast screens today, we invite God to search our hearts and expose what we’ve tolerated, justified, or tried to manage on our own. This is a day of honest surrender—choosing to “put off” old patterns and realign our desires with Him. We ask the Holy Spirit for strength to not just hide sin better, but to truly kill it at the root. Today is a day to put these old patterns "to death".
  • Scripture to meditate on: Colossians 3: 1-7
  • Journal prompt: What sins in your life do you find difficult to "put to death"? Why do you think that is or what is keeping the pattern alive?  Is there someone you can bring into helping bring light to this area of your life?
  •  Prayer: Pray for conviction of your hidden sin - for the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you. Pray for persistence to put it to death and people to help you along the way. Help me kill my secret sins.
Worship song suggestion: How to Be Yours - Chris Renzma (click to listen)
DAY 5 - THURSDAY FEBRUARY 26TH (add in scripture)
Am I letting Jesus speak to me?

Everything written in Scripture was given to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Word we might have hope. Today, we turn from discouraging voices, and fix our attention on God’s promises in scripture.  We ask, “Lord, let Your words bring me hope when my circumstances feel uncertain.” Where weariness has settled in, we invite His truth to strengthen us. May His Word steady our hearts, renew our endurance, and fill us with lasting hope.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Romans 15:4, Romans 15:13, Psalm 46:1
  • Journal prompt: Think through past struggles, hard times or valleys - write down a list of ways Jesus has spoken to you through His Word. How does He use it to give you hope?
  •  Prayer: Pray for a hunger for God’s Word. Give thanks for the fact that God loves you enough to speak to you personally! Lord, let your words bring me hope!
  • Worship song suggestion:  If it wasn’t for Jesus - Benjamin William Hastings (click to listen)
DAY 6 - FRIDAY FEBRUARY 27TH (adding in prayer)
Praying for one another

We are urged to confess our sins to one another, and pray for one another so that we may be healed. This is a call to step out of isolation and into, honest, faith-filled community. Today, we ask God to show us what we can become together—unified, transparent, and powerful in prayer. When we humble ourselves and lift each other up, healing flows and faith grows stronger. May this day deepen our trust in one another and reveal the strength that comes when we seek God side by side.
  • Scripture to meditate on: James 5:16
  • Journal prompt: Is there a specific person or family that you know at the church (God's people called HILLCITY) that could use prayer? Is there a way that you can lift them up with an encouraging word, act of kindness or service? How can you lift someone up at our church today?
  •  Prayer: Pray specifically for someone from our church. Pray for our church in a specific way or a specific thing (whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to think of). Lord, what can we be together?
  • Worship song suggestion:  Father’s House - Forrest Frank (click to listen)
DAY 7 - SATURDAY FEBRUARY 28TH (fasting food)
Praying for our leaders

God gives leaders to equip His people and build up the body of Christ. As we fast, we begin with gratitude—thanking God for pastors, teachers, and spiritual mentors who serve, guide, and invest in the adults, students, and children of our church. We pray for their strength, wisdom, protection, and renewed joy in their calling. We also ask God to help us grow into maturity, so that what they pour into us - produces fruit that lasts.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Ephesians 4:11-16
  • Journal prompt: Write down 5 words that bring you peace about the leadership and direction of our church. How is what our leaders doing at our church reflective of the mission that you think God has for HILLCITY. Remind yourself what drew you to HILLCITY in the first place.
  •  Prayer: Pray for a pastor, one of the HILLCITY elders, or a ministry leader (worship leaders, kids ministry directors, logistics, welcome table leader, or tech). Pray for renewed strength and for their joy to be found in God. Pray for their families and their relationships to reflect Jesus. Lord, thank you for those who lead.
  • Worship song suggestion: Catch me singing - Sean Curran (click to listen)
DAY 8 - SUNDAY MARCH 1ST (fasting screens/social media/TV)
Where can God use me in His church?

Each of us has been given gifts to serve others according to God’s grace. As we fast screens today, we invite God to show us how He wants to use us—in our families, church, workplaces, and community. We ask for humility to serve faithfully, courage to step into our unique calling, and wisdom to use our gifts well. We want to surrender: saying, “Lord, if it can only be one thing, don’t bless me— but use me.”
  • Scripture to meditate on: Romans 12:3-8
  • Journal prompt: In what ways do you feel God has gifted you?  (if you are unsure, call a friend or family member and be bold to ask them) How do you see those gifts play out in your everyday life (school, workplace, family or community)? How might God be asking you to use those gifts for the benefit of our church?
  •  Prayer: Pray that God would guide you to see your uniqueness in Him with gifts that He's uniquely given you. Pray for a place to or a way you might be able to serve the church? If you’re already serving, pray for the ministry areas and people with whom you serve. God, use me.
  • Worship song suggestion:  Use Me - Josiah Queen (click to listen)
DAY 9 - MONDAY MARCH 2ND (add in scripture)
How can we and the church grow?

The early church devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. They grew together in faith and love. Today, we ask, “Lord, help us grow”—both individually and as a community. We pray for deeper devotion, stronger unity, and hearts that are open to His guidance. We want to live like the early believers, encouraging one another, sharing generously, and letting God increase our faith and impact. Let this fast be a seed for lasting growth in our walk with Him and with each other.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Acts 2:42-47
  • Journal prompt: In what ways do you find the church is helping you to grow as a believer? In what ways do you think you are or can help(ing) the church to grow?
  •  Prayer: Pray that God would help you to see the ways in which HILLCITY can grow, and how you can be a part of that process. Pray that He would use our church to help you grow as spiritually and in maturity in your faith. Lord, help us grow.
  • Worship song suggestion: House of the Lord - Phil Wickham (click to listen)
DAY 10 - TUESDAY MARCH 3RD (adding in prayer)
Who is THE neighbor?

Jesus teaches that the greatest commandments are to love God fully and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Today, we ask, “Lord, who is THE neighbor?”—challenging us to see beyond comfort zones, social circles, and familiarity. We pray for eyes to see the hurting, ears to hear the hurting, and hearts willing to act in love. We want our hearts to hear God’s call to love radically, break barriers and embrace those around us with His compassion.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Acts 2:42-47
  • Journal prompt: Who in my life is the neighbor God is calling me to show love? What does that love look like right now (be specific)? Do I really love my neighbor?
  •  Prayer: Pray for a specific person on your street, at your job or in your daily life.
  • Worship song suggestion:  Somebody Prayed - Crowder (click to listen)
DAY 11 - WEDNESDAY MARCH 4TH (fasting food)
What does my neighbor need?

God reminds us that true fasting is more than abstaining—it is caring for the oppressed, feeding the hungry, and shifting our focus towards the needs of others. As we fast from food today, ask, “Lord, what does my neighbor need?”—seeking wisdom and sensitivity to see where we can serve. We pray for hearts that act when we see a need, hands that reach in compassion, and lives that reflect God’s mercy.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Isaiah 58:3-7
  • Journal prompt:  Who in my life might have a need? How can I fill that need spiritually, physically or with service?
  •  Prayer: Pray that God would show you a way to love someone specific in a new and impactful way this week.
  • Worship song suggestion:  Spare change - Brandon Lake (click to listen)
DAY 12 - THURSDAY MARCH 5TH (fasting screens/social media/TV)
Who is for my neighbor?

As we fast, we ask, “Lord, help me love my neighbor well.” We pray for hearts that reflect His grace, patience, and forgiveness in our interactions. We want to see others as Christ sees them, responding in humility and compassion rather than judgment or indifference. Today we ask, instead of what I desire, what does God ask me to do for my neighbor?
  • Scripture to meditate on: Colossians 2:6-15
  • Journal prompt:   Are there reasons you are afraid to show & share your faith to others in your life? What might you be keeping them from?
  •  Prayer: Pray for God to remove any self-consciousness or hindrances that keep you from loving those in your life, pray that God would help you to realize your neighbors’ need for Him. Lord, help me love my neighbor well.
  • Worship song suggestion:  Neighborheart - Citizen (click to listen)
DAY 13 - FRIDAY MARCH 6TH (adding in scripture)
Can our neighbors be redeemed?

Nehemiah prayed earnestly for the restoration of Jerusalem, lifting the needs of his people to God’s hands. Today we echo that prayer, asking, “Lord, let my neighbors come to You.” We intercede for those around us who are lost, hurting, or distant from God; trusting Him to draw them near. Today we want to deepen our compassion, focus our prayers, and open doors for God’s grace to move in the lives of those we love.
  • Scripture to meditate on: Nehemiah 1:4-10
  • Journal prompt:  Am I praying that my neighbors (those in my community) might come to know the Lord and be redeemed and restored to God?  What do WE all need prayer for?
  •  Prayer: Pray specifically for two people in your life who need to know Jesus. Pray and ask God for the opportunity to intentionally invite them to church in the next few weeks.
Worship song suggestion:  It really is Amazing Grace (Alelluia) - Phil Wickham & Crowder (click to listen)
DAY 14 - SATURDAY MARCH 7TH (fasting food before the worship night)
Come let us sing with THANKFULNESS!

  • Scripture to meditate on: Colossians 3:12-17
  • Journal prompt:  As we gather to sing, how have you changed over the last 2 weeks? Has God helped you put on kindness and humility? Has He helped you to forgive? Do you have a new heart towards those in our community? Will you bring unity and harmony?
  •  Prayer: Pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal areas that have either been radically changed or are a work in progress! Pray for the worship night tonight and our community time together as we sing the name of Jesus high.
  • Worship song suggestion:  Come to the worship night! Potluck dinner (to break the fast) at 6pm with worship at 7pm. Invite anyone and everyone!
